SNAP-8
Description
SNAP-8, also known as Acetyl Octapeptide-3, represents an evolution in cosmetic peptide technology. Developed as an extension of the popular hexapeptide Argireline, SNAP-8 contains two additional amino acids that enhance its ability to modulate neuromuscular junction activity. The peptide works by competing with SNAP-25 (Synaptosomal-Associated Protein of 25 kDa) for positions in the SNARE complex—the molecular machinery responsible for neurotransmitter release that triggers muscle contraction. By partially inhibiting this process, SNAP-8 can reduce the intensity of facial muscle movements that create expression lines over time. Unlike neurotoxin injections, SNAP-8 produces gradual, moderate effects through topical application, making it a popular ingredient in anti-aging skincare formulations marketed as 'botox alternatives.'
